About

Antimonument is a public charity organization (e.V.) registered in Germany and was founded in 2016 to create platforms for the convergence of art, technology and memory in an attempt to liberate ourselves from both the monument and monumentalities of collective memories by finding new threads, stories and methodologies to access memories once frozen behind the monument.

History

The organization initially inspired by the “Antimonument Manifest” written by an artist Shinpei Takeda in Nagasaki, Japan in 2015,  and followed its first project  Erinnerunghorizonte – HIroshima, Nagasaki, and Dresden in Dresden, Germany in 2016. Since 2018 it has focused on different methodologies of visualizing invisible memories by use of different technologies such as augmented reality, virtual reality and mix reality in places like Ground Zero park in Nagasaki, Japan or at a holocaust memorial site in Düsseldorf.
